In central Ohio and surrounding area’s, the standard Columbus Bar Association contract states that the seller will pay for and choose the title insurance company. However, you have a right to choose and you do have a definite say in the matter! In fact, as the buyer with a federally insured loan, you have a right under RESPA federal law.
What is the easiest thing to do? Write us into your contract from the start – that you wish to close at Eagle Land Title Agency. If your real estate agent or the sellers agent has already selected the title insurance company for you, inquire as to why. Many real estate agents have an ownership interest in a title company.
